Next-Generation Power Distribution: Introducing the 9P & 10P Models

For years, Pedoc heard the same requests from customers: they needed higher power capacity, multiple high-amp receptacles, and better distribution options. The standard 5×5 platform couldn’t accommodate 50/30/20 amp configurations common in RV parks, food truck venues, and municipal power distribution projects.

The engineering team explored solutions—6P and 8P prototypes—working toward the narrowest possible design that could safely handle three receptacles while maintaining ease of installation. Then a local municipality approached with a downtown redevelopment project needing exactly what Pedoc had been developing: high-power pedestals with circuit protection and daisy-chaining capability for holiday lighting and food truck events.

The customer was confident enough to order 70+ units for their main street installation, and the performance led to additional orders after they saw how the system worked in practice. The result is Pedoc’s 9P and 10P models—the first Pedoc pedestals designed specifically for distributed high-power applications.

Distributed High Power Pedestals: What the 9P and 10P Deliver

9P Model: Compact High-Power Configuration

“Nine inches is the narrowest pedestal we could fit all those receptacles in safely and have ease of installation,” explains Mike Palmer, Director of Production at Pedoc Power.

The 9P introduces modular face plates to the Pedoc lineup, which means you can change receptacle configurations without replacing the entire pedestal—just swap the insert face plate. If your football season needs 50-amp service for food vendors but the off-season requires 20-amp charging stations, you can adapt the same infrastructure investment to both applications. One pedestal, multiple uses as your needs change.

10P Model: Distributed Power with Circuit Protection

The 10P builds on the 9P platform by adding distribution capability and individual circuit protection, which opens up possibilities for larger installations where multiple pedestals need to work together.

“They were able to bring a larger diameter cable from one pedestal to another—daisy chain,” Palmer says, describing the municipality installation. “They could have a lot of pedestals on one circuit from their home feed, and provide circuit protection for each individual receptacle.”

That municipality installed over 70 units every 20 feet down their main street, all running from one home feed. The individual circuit breakers mean isolated troubleshooting—if one pedestal has an issue, the rest stay operational. The system powers everything from holiday lighting to food truck festivals and community events throughout the year.

Why These Models Required In-House Manufacturing

Pedoc manufactures everything in-house at our Illinois facility, which makes a real difference when you’re developing something new. The municipality timeline shows how this works in practice: they sent a hand-sketch drawing of what they needed, and the Pedoc engineering team created submittal drawings, the customer toured the facility to see the prototype, and within weeks the order was approved and manufacturing began.

“We manufacture these ourselves,” Palmer explains. “We have control over what we can and can’t do, and our goal is to satisfy the customer.”

Compare that to overseas manufacturers with 6+ month lead times, minimum order quantities for any customization, and limited engineering support. When you work with Pedoc, you’re talking directly to the engineers and production management. “You’ll talk to a human, you’ll get an answer,” Palmer says. “We will work with you. We’ll help you figure out what you need.”

The quality standards stay consistent across the entire product line, whether it’s a standard 5×5 or the new higher-power models:

  • 14-gauge stainless steel (considerably thicker than average pedestals)
  • Fully welded one-piece construction (no bolted panels)
  • Powder coat over stainless (scratches won’t rust)

“You install it and forget about it,” Palmer says. “It’s always there when you need it.”

Installation follows the same straightforward process as other Pedoc models: the open-bottom design sits over conduit, wires pull through the front, termination is accessible, and mounting hardware is included for integral base models. No special tools or support structures required. “Electricians love working with them, easy to install,” Palmer notes from the feedback he hears regularly.

The maintenance requirements haven’t changed either—just visual inspection, no ongoing service needed.

Applications Across Markets

Municipal Infrastructure

The original 10P installation demonstrates what’s possible for downtown redevelopment. The pedestals power holiday tree lighting, food truck festivals, outdoor concerts, and community events throughout the year. Custom powder coating matched the existing downtown fixtures, and the circuit protection met all code requirements for public access. The daisy-chained configuration significantly reduced electrical infrastructure costs compared to running separate circuits to each location.

Food Truck and Event Venues

“Since COVID, food trucks have become more popular, which needs more power, more receptacles, better ways of distributing power,” Palmer explains. More municipalities are replacing generators with permanent pedestals because of carbon monoxide concerns near food service, noise pollution, and environmental impact.

Food truck equipment has serious power demands:

  • Fryers and cooking equipment: 50-60 amp
  • Refrigeration: 30 amp continuous
  • Lighting and point-of-sale: 20 amp

The 9P’s 50/30/20 configuration can support one full-service food truck per pedestal, or you can power multiple vendors with varying needs from the same unit. Lockable covers prevent unauthorized access between events, there’s zero generator noise, no exhaust fumes, and the whole setup looks professional instead of temporary.

Campus and Sporting Venues

Palmer describes what he sees at University of Iowa: “The entire tailgating area—people selling T-shirts, snack carts, cash machines, lights, promotional stuff—Pedocs all over the place.” Campus needs shift with the seasons, and the modular face plate system adapts right along with them.

Sporting complexes are using 9P and 10P models for:

  • Scoreboards requiring dedicated power
  • Concession stands and seasonal food service
  • Reporting booths (cameras, microphones, recording equipment)
  • Sound systems and announcements
  • Tournament equipment (timing systems, displays)

Palmer discovered Pedoc pedestals at his nephew’s Air Force Academy graduation when he noticed “a Pedoc pedestal at the end of every seating row for people to charge phones or cameras.” These applications need high power for commercial equipment, multiple receptacles to reduce extension cord runs, lockable covers for security, and weather-resistant construction that handles year-round exposure.
